Balanced Lifestyle of Successful People

Specifically, we feel like we have lost that sense of work-life balance. We know we may have been putting in a lot of 80-hour weeks in a row, and we could feel that the side effects of making that kind of dedication.

I’ve found that the best CEOs are always striving to locate balance in their own lives. And certainly, we all need to put ourselves out of balance for a while, when, for instance, we’re in the middle of buying or selling a business. You know heading into that trade that you are going to really go out of equilibrium. However, the key is to be aware of that and know what you’re sacrificing in the deal.

They measure themselves seven important components, where they provide themselves a score from 1 (way out of balance) to 10 (Zen-like harmony) to determine where they stand. I am not sure I’ve ever met anyone who has scored a 10 on all seven elements, so a reasonable goal may be to find equilibrium with half of these parts of your life.

1. Physical health.
Whether you are a CEO or just a go-getter on the job it’s easy to let things like exercise and diet go by the wayside once things get busy at the workplace. But the body you’ve got is the only body you’re likely to get, and it requires you to take you until the conclusion of the game. That’s why it’s critical to keep to maintain your body strong and healthy enough to allow you to do the things that excite you–if that is traveling for business or visiting your grandkids. The important thing here is to be fit enough you don’t have to say”no” to whatever you would like to do.

2. Family.
How do you feel about your family time?  Your children? Family ties are the tightest connections you ought to have in your own life, no matter how busy things get on the job. If you provide yourself a very low score, it’s worth hitting the pause button to invest in fixing these relationships. Family members are part of your service network, and you’ll never miss them more than when you’re at your lowest point.

3. Social.
Do you get a robust network of friends or maybe not? Do you have a group of people you hang out with regularly, maybe for a book club or to go play football? If not, it is time to begin building these kinds of relationships. Having people around you who you like and trust is one of the greatest indications of living a long life. If you’re forfeiting relationships such as these because you’re working too hard, you’re clearly not in balance.

4. Financial.
What exactly does your own personal financial balance sheet look like? Are you on a way to collect enough wealth that you will have the ability to enjoy a comfortable retirement? Are your assets rising over time–or have you ever neglected to take the time to tend your fiscal garden? The key to personal financial health is to feel in control and understand you have sufficient cash to get choices. If you are working too much and you don’t have the money you need, something is obviously missing from the equation.

5. Business.
Whether you’re running your own business or climbing the corporate ladder, then ask yourself how energized you are to go into work daily. Are you really eager to be making a difference and making progress–or do you dread the monotony of your day-to-day drag? Or, if you own the business, how are things going: Are earnings and profits growing? But it’s worth measuring how all that time you’re investing in your job is paying off.

6. Civic.
How much time are you can invest in the things you care about in your community? That may mean anything from volunteering to serving on the PTA or training a sports team–whatever that turns you on when you give yourself. If you haven’t made enough time to give back, you are missing out on real emotional revenge, because you are rewarded with the action of giving. And the important thing here isn’t only signing checks–talent and time are the real gifts.

7. Spiritual.
The last facet of living a balanced lifestyle is the spiritual side. This could be anything from taking a walk in the forests to making a trip to church on Sunday–anything matches up to your spiritual cup. This is the way we revive ourselves when we’re down–and it is something that can be easily ignored. Should you examine low here, be the time to rethink your connection to God, character, or anything.

Finding equilibrium among these seven components isn’t always easy. But I’ll share a cautionary tale of what can happen if you find yourself out of equilibrium for too long. Early in my career, I worked for a CEO who had been a business superstar. However, everyone, including his loved ones, loathed him. He may have been a triumph in the element of business, however, he hadn’t any friends, his children wanted nothing to do with him, he was on his fourth wife, and he had been spiritually bankrupt.
